Thiago wins 100% of his duels for Liverpool in “top performance”

Thiago put in a memorable performance for Liverpool in their 3-2 win over Manchester City. Jurgen Klopp called it a ‘best performance’.

Liverpool are in the FA Cup final for the first time since 2012 after an eventful game against Manchester City at Wembley. The Reds took a 3-0 half-time lead, only for Pep Guardiola’s side to pull it back to 3-2. Thankfully, a nervy final few minutes ended scoreless.

And there were some great performances on the bill for Liverpool. Sadio Mané grabbed the headlines and rightly so – his two goals rocked this game. Ibrahima Konaté certainly played his part too, with the opener and a fine defensive end.

And in midfield, we would choose Thiago. The Spaniard has been magnificent in everything he’s done for Liverpool – with and without the ball.

Thiago has won 100% of his duels at Wembley, for example. Two out of two headers, two out of two dribbles and – incredibly – four out of four tackles. This last figure was a high (along with four other players).

And with the ball, Thiago was as fantastic as expected. His success rate of 92% was the best of any starter, while he was also able to create a chance. Liverpool involved their No.6 heavily and to fantastic effect.

Thiago shines for Liverpool

It was a ‘best performance’, in the words of Jürgen Klopp. And he really was – a high-caliber player delivering all over the pitch when Liverpool needed him.

Can you believe there was a time when people doubted Thiago? Some claimed he didn’t fit the style of play, disrupted things or simply couldn’t keep up with the physical pace in England. All well and truly put to bed – he’s a phenomenal player who takes Liverpool to another level.

And maybe, with any luck, that level is four trophies this season.
