Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal has dropped a hint about his future amid speculation with an exit.
The 23-year-old told Sky Sports – in a Twitter post shared by The Spurs Web – that he is “very happy” at Tottenham.
Emerson joined Spurs from Barcelona last summer and has made 39 competitive appearances for the Lilywhites.
He had a mixed first season in N17, with some flashes of quality but also disappointing performances.
In the draw against Brentford last time out, the Brazilian delivered what football.london considered a ‘now iconic performance’, giving him 4/10.
“Pretty solid in his defensive work,” the outlet added. “But offered very little to go forward other than a ball through the box to give Kane half a chance.”
But there have also been strong performances, such as that in February’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Brighton.
Emerson forced Solly March an own goal in the first half to put Spurs 2-0 up and was brilliant throughout.
Antonio Conte loved what he saw back then, telling football.london his player had put in a “really excellent performance”.
The Tottenham boss also said: “Remember Emerson is only 23 and coming here and playing in another league is not easy.”
“Great learning curve”
Earlier this month, Emerson told Cadena Ser – via Futaa – that he was aware of Atletico Madrid’s interest in him.
The ex-Barca man has stressed he’s had a ‘good time’ at Tottenham.
However, he added: “I don’t know what will happen in the future. I like other teams watching my football.
Now, speaking to Sky Sports, Emerson has provided another update regarding his desire to stay at Tottenham.
“It’s been a great learning curve, I’ve been very happy here,” he said.
“I learned all kinds of different things. Culture, language, even food.
“So it’s been a massive development for my personal and professional life.”
