Gary Lineker, Micah Richards and Alan Shearer spoke on the BBC Match of the Day Top 10 podcast about Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.

The English skipper recently became the talk of the town for his trip to America to watch golf. He was heavily criticized for his performance against Brighton at the weekend, although it wasn’t really his fault Spurs lost.

The summer transfer window is only a few months away and Spurs fans’ fear of losing Kane is slowly starting to increase.

Shearer believes no Tottenham fan will complain or resent Kane if he leaves them this summer, but Lineker strongly disagreed with that statement.

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer disagree on Tottenham fans

Speaking of Kane, Lineker said: “Sometimes as fans, more than players, we hate it when players leave our clubs. We say they’re not loyal and don’t care, don’t we give him some credit for being with the club he (Kane) has been through his entire career he’s stuck with?

“Maybe we should applaud the fact that he stayed at his club even though he didn’t win anything.”

Shearer then added: “I don’t think there will be a single Tottenham fan who would criticize him now if he demanded (to leave).”

Lineker immediately disagreed: “I think you are wrong, they half turned on him this summer. Many of them backfired on him for a time, although he won them again. There’s no doubt about it, I have Spurs fans as friends and they were really disappointed.”

TBR view:

Lineker and Shearer are right in a way.

After everything Kane has done over the years for Tottenham, he has arguably earned the right to move on and fulfill his personal silverware ambition.

However, if he leaves, you can’t really blame Spurs fans for being disappointed in him, can you?

With Antonio Conte at the helm, Tottenham are in the best position they have had in the past 15 years to win silverware. Kane will be an integral part of that, but if he leaves, even the Italian might not be able to end the club’s trophy drought anytime soon.
