Cesar Azpilicueta doesn’t want to upset Chelsea ahead of a potential transfer to FC Barcelona at the end of the season, according to reports.
The Blues skipper is out of contract at the end of the season and could be set for an exit from Stamford Bridge.
According to Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, Azpilicueta wants to stay on good terms with Chelsea even if he has to leave the club.
It comes after Chelsea were left frustrated by Andreas Christensen as he has refused to sign an extension so far and it looks like Christensen will be a Barcelona player this week after completing the first part of his medical last week.
It has already been reported that Barcelona are not only chasing Christensen but also Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta.
And now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Azpilicueta doesn’t want to upset Chelsea.
The report states: “Although he wants to move to Spain, the club captain knows that Chelsea have the option of extending his contract for another year and he would rather settle things amicably than force an exit.”
This could lead to Barcelona paying a fee for the Chelsea defender, allowing him to repay the club for the trust shown in him.
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has previously been asked about his captain’s future and he said: “I think the contractual situation with Azpi is quite clear. At the moment we are dealing with it and Azpi is dealing with it in a very professional way. We are working on it behind closed doors.
“He epitomizes everything Chelsea stand for – being relentless, being humble, but being a warrior at the same time.”
However, it looks like the captain could follow Christensen to Barcelona.
