Barcelona are trying to persuade Clement Lenglet to move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer, according to ESPN.
The centre-back has been seen as surplus to requirements for the Catalan giants, who want to offload him to help spark their squad’s overhaul ahead of the new La Liga campaign.
Talks between the two clubs have been ongoing for several weeks, with Barcelona keen to sell him permanently, while Spurs would rather borrow the 27-year-old.
Barca are said to be open to the possibility of a loan switch, with the North Londoners covering a significant portion of his wages.
Lenglet is ready to leave the Nou Camp, however, it’s unclear if he’s ready to move to England.
The France international has dropped further down the pecking order alongside Xavi following the arrival of Andreas Christensen from Chelsea.
Somewhat worryingly, Spurs have gone from being linked with Pau Torres and Alessandro Bastoni to a drop in quality if Lenglet is seriously considered as a transfer target.
Spurs need to spend big if they want to bring in a player who can make a noticeable difference on the left side of their defence, in the same way Cristian Romero helped make a big impact.
