Manchester United midfielder sees permanent transfer fall apart

Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira will not sign for Flamengo, his agent has confirmed.

The 26-year-old has been on loan at the Brazilian side since August 2021.

Major update on the future of Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira

What the Manchester United midfielder’s agent said

Andreas Pereira’s agent Giuliano Bertolucci told journalist Vene Casagrande in quotes carried by fabrice romano that his client would “return to European football” after the failure of negotiations.

Earlier in the year, it was reported that Manchester United had reached an agreement with Flamengo over the sale of the once-held Brazil international.

However, a lack of urgency in the announcement of this suggested something was wrong – this coupled with his lesser role in the team.

It is now confirmed that the deal fell apart.

It is unclear if Pereira has a future at Manchester United under new manager Erik ten Hag. He played 75 games for the Manchester United first team, scoring four goals and providing five assists. Many expect him to have played his last game at Old Trafford.

Flamengo was his fourth loan spell away from the Red Devils after having spells with Granada, Valencia and Lazio.

Andreas Pereira’s time in Brazil

Since joining Flamengo, Andreas Pereira has played 45 games, scored six goals and provided three assists. More recently, he has fallen out of favor in terms of first-team football, often having to settle for a place on the bench.

That said, he did feature in Flamengo’s 2-1 win over Fluminense on Sunday night, being involved in both goals. He was making his third league start to the season – having come on as a substitute in his other five appearances.

Pereira was much more involved in Serie A last season. Having joined mid-season, he made 18 appearances and was involved in six goals.

Unfortunately for Pereira, many will remember his fate for his mistake in the Copa Libertadores final that handed Palmeiras victory in extra time.

The midfielder has also not been helped by the team’s change of manager with Paulo Sousa in charge ahead of the current season.
