Manchester United have agreed a fee with Ajax for the transfer of Lisandro Martinez, Athleticism understand.
Personal terms have also been agreed with Martinez, 24, and United hope he can join them on their pre-season tour of Australia.
United chief executive Richard Arnold and director of football John Murtough traveled to Amsterdam to complete the deal with Ajax chief executive – and former United goalkeeper – Edwin van der Sar .
Martinez has sparked interest from Erik ten Hag’s side and the United manager has his man.
Athleticism reported that United were in talks with Ajax in a bid to agree a deal for Martinez.
Martinez reportedly told the Eredivisie champions that the only option he would consider this summer would be a move to the Premier League.
When Ajax extended his contract last October, it was understood that they wouldn’t stand in his way should such an opportunity arise.
Arsenal were also thought to be interested in Martinez, but the opportunity to reunite with Ten Hag – who managed him at Ajax – would have appealed more to the left centre-back.
Martinez played 36 times for Ajax last season and made seven appearances for Argentina.
In Australia, United face Melbourne Victory on Friday, followed by Crystal Palace on Tuesday and then Aston Villa on Saturday.
