Liverpool look set to beat Chelsea thanks to the signing of much-loved Celtic star Ben Doak.
The 16-year-old has been compared to Gareth Bale for his ability to play at full-back or on the wing – and once made the Bhoys’ first team with manager Ange Postecoglu who is expected to be heavily impressed with the player .
Now, the mail reports that Liverpool and Chelsea have both trailed Doak but the Reds are leading the race. Apparently the Celtic star could be had for just £150,000.
Doak is yet to sign his first professional contract with Celtic and Celtic would be unable to match the kind of money Premier League sides would offer. Chelsea’s current situation is undoubtedly hampering their ability to sign the player.
Signing Doak would not only unite the teenager with Scottish international captain Andy Robertson, but would mean the pursuit of a new, younger management that Jurgen Klopp has highlighted in his recent purchases.
Harvey Elliott was signed at the end of his contract at Fulham, with the teenager spending a year on loan at Blackburn Rovers before joining the Liverpool team.
Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota have both been added to the attack in a bid to freshen up the iconic but aging front three of Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, while Curtis Jones and Caoimhin Kelleher have been given opportunities from the youth system . .
The Merseysiders were close to signing 19-year-old Fabio Carvalho from Fulham in January but also missed the deadline.
