Arsenal receive transfer blow

Arsenal and Newcastle have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Everton manager Frank Lampard has now insisted the England international is in his long-term plans.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Brentford, he said: “He’s a fantastic striker, the pedigree of a striker that there aren’t many around. C It’s unfortunate for me, I think, that I didn’t get it in shape.

“He had small moments, but we know strikers – especially from any position – need a series of games, fitness and confidence.

“We never managed to get that to get Dominic fair to him. But yeah, he’s a huge player, they’re not very common. He is under contract with us, he has three years left on his contract, and I want to bring this club forward and players like Dominic help him.

“I know he didn’t play by the minute because he was getting fit but now he’s fit so hopefully he contributes in the last games for starters and then he’ll be our player.

“He is a player who would be sought after by clubs because of his level as a player.

“There aren’t many attackers there, they cost a lot of money. I’m not worried about him at all.”
