However, they were beaten to the signing of Solomon by Fulham, who are currently top of the league under Marco Silva.

Romano believes a €7.5m (£6.2m) deal has been agreed between Shakhtar Donetsk and the Cottagers which is a bargain for a player Arsenal would have offered 17m pounds sterling in 2021.

Of course, the war in Ukraine played a part in lowering the fee, as football in the country came to a standstill.

The 22-year-old has signed a contract at Craven Cottage until 2027 and will arrive in west London on July 1.

Shakhtar Donetsk agreed to a 15% sell clause.

With all due respect, we’re not sure how Fulham managed to get this deal through.

Solomon scored twice against Real Madrid last season – one in Ukraine, one in Spain – and looked destined to join one of the Premier League’s top sides.

It was no surprise to see Arsenal bid for him, and it says a lot that Shakhtar Donetsk actually rejected that £17m offer.

Obviously, they rate the Israeli very highly, but unfortunately the war has caused a separation between the two.

Hopefully Solomon can get his career back on track in London, where we expect to see him cause all sorts of problems for defenders.
