Daily Schmankerl: Are Bayern Munich still looking for a new centre-back?; Ivan Perisic – wanted man; Julian Nagelsmann at Leeds United; Mario Götze admits he should have gone to Liverpool; and more!

According to the kicker, the rumored signings of midfielder Ryan Gravenberch and defender Noussair Mazraoui haven’t deterred Bayern Munich from still looking for a replacement for centre-back Niklas Süle.

Süle, of course, will leave for Borussia Dortmund this summer, but Bayern Munich would have been alongside their centre-backs for next season. That tune, however, seems to have changed and if the kicker is correct, the Bavarians are still on the hunt for a centre-back.

But who?

Antonio Rüdiger looks set to re-sign with Chelsea FC, Andreas Christensen is set to join FC Barcelona and Turin’s Gleison Bremer is reportedly close to signing a deal with Inter Milan.

Neither Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Matthias Ginter nor SC Freiburg’s Nico Schlotterbeck are expected to excite Bayern Munich leaders enough to pull out the club’s checkbook.

If this kicker rumor is true, we could see the club linked with a new generation of defenders – or even a name or two from that previous list – once again.

For a split second, I wondered, “What f*€£ what was Julian Nagelsmann doing during the Leeds United-Watford match? » :

The picture is pretty glorious regardless, but the guy who looks a bit like Nagelsmann did it for me.

The week was kind of normal until Wednesday kicked off a spree of craziness.

Bayern Munich’s loss to Villarreal in the Champions League, followed the transfer madness involving Robert Lewandowski and the Ajax duo of Noussair Mazraoui and Ryan Gravenberch really threw the latter part of the week on a loop.

We’ve touched on all of this and more, so check out what we have at your disposal:

  • Where Bayern Munich went wrong against Villarreal and how things could improve on Tuesday.
  • Mazraoui and Gravenberch’s potential acquisitions and why I’m not getting one of the moves.
  • The negotiations of Serge Gnabry and who is interested in the German international.
  • The freak who just won’t commit to Julian Nagelsmann.
  • A few other items just for good measure.

Former Bayern Munich player Mario Götze’s ill-fated career arc will be discussed for decades. What could have been if not for a difficult-to-diagnose medical condition and a poor decision about where to pursue his career.

At the end of his tenure at Bayern Munich, Götze had the chance to join his former Borussia Dortmund boss Jürgen Klopp at Liverpool. It was a move Götze still wishes he had made.

“Do I regret it? It’s always hard to look back, but if you ask me now, yes, I definitely should have gone to Liverpool. I just made a bad decision, but I don’t regret it.

Bayern Munich limped off to a 1-0 victory in a closely contested derby against Augsburg. Bayern got a late penalty thanks to a handball from Reece Oxford. The referee almost immediately pointed the point and Robert Lewandowski converted with a powerful penalty. In this podcast, we look at the following:

  • More praise for Jamal Musiala
  • No goals in open play in 180 minutes

  • Augsburg’s notable performances
  • The problems plaguing Bayern right now
  • Quick thoughts on Freiburg and ahead of Villarreal

Ivan Perisic was a ley player for Bayern Munich’s 2019/20 season on the treble while on loan from Inter Milan.

Now the Croatian sensation has performed so well that many other clubs want him – only Inter Milan also want to retain him quite badly:
