Chelsea striker rejects possibility of Conte reuniting with Spurs in favor of Serie A return

Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku has rejected the chance to reunite with Antonio Conte at Tottenham in favor of a return to Inter, according to reports.

The Belgian worked with Conte at Inter and scored 24 goals in the title-winning campaign under the Italian in the 2020/2021 season.

He then joined Chelsea last summer in a deal worth around £100million, but it was not planned for the striker at Stamford Bridge.

Lukaku has scored just eight Premier League goals this season and often found himself on the bench with manager Thomas Tuchel’s favorites Kai Havertz and Timo Werner.

His off-pitch antics also didn’t help the 29-year-old in an interview earlier this campaign in which he criticized his role under Tuchel and admitted he would like to return to Inter.

He has since been heavily linked with a return to join the Italian giants, who finished second in Serie A to rivals AC Milan this season.

However, according to CalcioMercato (via Caught Offside)Spurs boss Conte approached Lukaku but the former Manchester United man rejected in favor of a return to Milan.

Lukaku would prefer a move to Inter as it would give him the chance to be a leader, which would be less the case at Chelsea or Spurs.

Meanwhile, Lukaku’s Blues teammate Christian Pulisic has admitted he would like more playing time at Chelsea in the future.

“Right now I’m obviously focused on what I’m doing here. [with the USMNT]. And I’m super excited to be here,” Pulisic said (via Goal).

“Of course, I want to have more playing time. I want to be on the pitch as much as possible and be as sharp as possible and fit as well.

“I think I still have a lot of games but it’s still something I’m working on and trying to be consistent at club level too to put myself in the best position to be fit when I come. here with the national team.”

Asked about Todd Boehly’s takeover of Chelsea, Pulisic added: “At the end of the season we were able to meet them and they were a lot in the club.

“They’re really good people, so I’m excited to move on.”
