Barcelona target Brazilian striker also wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal

Manchester City striker Gabriel Jesus is attracting a lot of interest this summer as it’s well known that the forward wants a move away from the club. Arsenal were seen as favorites to complete the signing of Jesus, but recent reports indicate that Chelsea also want a seat at the negotiating table. Oriol Domenech Now reports that Barcelona will target the Brazilian striker if their move for Robert Lewandowski fails.

Barcelona target Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus as alternative to Lewandowski

Gabriel Jesus asks for it

Manchester City splashed a huge amount of money to sign Erling Haaland in the summer which led to Gabriel Jesus going surplus to requirement. The 25-year-old will have no shortage of suitors as he has impressed during his time at Manchester City, hitting double-digit goals in every full season with the club.

With an output of 95 goals in 236 games, it’s no wonder so many clubs are considering a move for someone who is a proven Premier League goalscorer.

Potential domino effect

For Barcelona to enter the race, a number of dominoes will have to fall into place. Their current target is Robert Lewandowski, who wants to move to Barcelona. If a move for Lewandowski can’t be pulled off, things get complicated for Barcelona.

Barcelona will need to raise funds to compete with offers from Chelsea and Arsenal; to do so, the club could fast-track Frenkie de Jong’s move to Manchester United, who are currently in their early stages as Barcelona rejected an opening offer of around €60m.

The race for Gabriel Jesus is likely to come down to Chelsea and Arsenal. Even this deal hinges on Romelu Lukaku returning to Inter Milan, for Barcelona he is only an alternative option if their first choice isn’t available. But, there are definite questions as to whether the club could even afford to buy Jesus.
