Barcelona and Frenkie de Jong continue to insist that they are happy together but the rumor mill has absolutely nothing of it ahead of the summer transfer window.
The latest update comes from the reporter Gerard Romero who claims there’s a ‘95%’ chance Frenkie will leave for Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils are believed to be willing to shell out between €70m and €80m for the Dutchman to join former Ajax boss Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford,
Romero claims the transfer would be a ‘pure economic matter’ and also adds that ‘it’s May 11 and the situation can still change’.
There’s a bit more too. The thinking at Barcelona seems to be that the club ‘is clear that if they go on for another season and the player doesn’t explode, he will lose value and Barca will lose money’.
De Jong signed for an initial fee of €75m in the summer of 2019 and has been a regular in the Barcelona squad ever since.
The Dutchman has repeatedly insisted he wants to stay at Barcelona, and Xavi has said the same, but the rumors continue to swirl due to the club’s huge debts.
