Transfer expert Dean Jones has claimed he hears ‘whispers’ that Arsenal are looking for Raheem Sterling, but they are unwilling to compete with a move from Chelsea who can pay the highest wages.
We were thought to be keen on securing the services of Leeds United striker Raphinha but he currently looks set to choose either Barcelona or Chelsea.
We could be set to face the Blues again in our bid to sign Sterling as well, but due to our wage structure we are not confident of a deal at this time, and Chelsea are more than likely to be able to respond more easily. to his requests. .
Jones insists there are rumors about our efforts to sign him though.
He told GiveMeSport; “There have been rumors that Arsenal will opt for Sterling, but there is very little chance that they will go into this deal as revenge on Chelsea for bidding on Raphinha.
“The main problem, far from the level where they are, are wages. I’m told they just can’t compete at his level of pay.
As much as I would love to see Sterling join, I find it hard to believe we could meet his demands, nor do I think he fits our current transfer policy.
We may have shown enough ambition this summer to show we’re serious in the new season to get his attention, but I’m not hopeful as things stand.
