Arsenal defender Cedric Soares could still stay at the club this summer

Arsenal defender Cedric Soares is expected to stay put this summer despite not being a regular in the club’s first team, according to respected Gunners and Goal journalist Charles Watts.

Cedric has been in and out of proceedings this season but has been an important member of the squad thanks to the injury suffered by Takehiro Tomiyasu. The ‘fantastic’ right-back has never let Arteta down and has indeed played more often than he thought.

And speaking on his YouTube channel yesterday, Watts broached the subject of Cedric. And while there has been talk of Arsenal bringing in new faces and team players like Cedric transferring, Watts believes he is more likely to stay put than leave.

“It kind of depends on him. He has a nice contract. Will he decide that he wants to go play more regularly? I mean, people I know who are close to Cedric say he loves it at Arsenal and is very, very happy,” Watts said.

“There have been opportunities for him to leave before now and he chose to stay. He’s behind Tomiyasu right now and playing well. And it’s really a question of whether he wants to go or not.

Cedric was linked with a move last month when reports suggested he was ready to move on. This, then, would represent a quick change of heart.

TBR’s view: Cedric should stay with Arsenal

Looks like having Cedric playing has seen the Portuguese star change his mind. And to be fair to him, he is an important player in the Arsenal team.

Mikel Arteta has made no secret of the love he has for the players who sometimes come in and out of his team. Cedric is one of those, and he hasn’t let the Spaniard down yet.

It wouldn’t be surprising if Arteta wanted to keep Cedric. And Arsenal fans, too, probably won’t mind him staying put.
