Arsenal are currently working on the structure of a deal with a fixed transfer fee and bonuses that would satisfy the Premier League champions. An initial offer of £30m was rejected but Arsenal will submit an improved offer.
Jesus, who has only one year left on his contract, wants to join the London club and he corresponds exactly to the profile of player that Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, is looking for.
Jesus scored 13 goals and provided 12 assists in all competitions for City last season and can play in all attacking positions. He also excels at pressing and counter-pressing, which are key aspects of Arteta’s style of play.
In the meantime, the Gunners are close to signing Porto starlet Fabio Vieira. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder is expected in London on Friday to undergo his medical examination and sign a five-year contract for a transfer worth 40 million euros.
