Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City, Athleticism understand.
Having already signed Gabriel Jesus from the Premier League champions this summer, the north London club are now also aiming to bring their former team-mate to the Emirates Stadium.
The clubs are in contact over a potential transfer and City are believed to be ready to sanction the sale of the 25-year-old if their assessment is met.
That hasn’t happened so far but talks are continuing with Arsenal believed to be prioritizing Zinchenko after missing out on Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez.
If an agreement can be reached with City on a fee and the Ukraine international on personal terms, Arsenal would acquire a player manager Mikel Arteta has been keen to meet with.
They worked together when Arteta was City boss Pep Guardiola’s assistant at the Etihad Stadium and are known to have a strong relationship.
Zinchenko arrived from Russian side FC Ufa in 2016 and has two years left on his contract.
Although he tends to operate in midfield for his country, Zinchenko has mainly been used by Guardiola at left-back. Although this is a specific area of the pitch where Arsenal are looking to strengthen, his versatility is sure to please.
Zinchenko enjoyed huge success at City; winning the English top flight four times as well as the League Cup. He won an FA Cup and played in the 2021 Champions League final.
City are in the hunt for a new left-back, with Brighton and Hove Albion’s Marc Cucurella believed to be the main candidate at present.
