El Futbolero claims Arsenal and Liverpool are considering a deal for Napoli striker Hirving Lozano this summer – but the report says the Mexican has made up his mind he wants to stay at Napoli for the season 22-23.
Lozano, 26, has spent the last three seasons at Napoli – but his best form came in 2020-21 when he scored 14 goals. Last season, he only managed six. He started just 25 of his 37 outings, completing 90 minutes only twice.
Despite this, the report claims that Liverpool and Sevilla have asked to sign the Mexican star on 56 occasions – while Arsenal are showing interest. It’s unclear how much Napoli would want for a player who cost them £38.5m (goal).
He is about to start the last two years of his contract at Napoli. But the Mexican has made his decision. Despite a transfer to Sevilla, the Champions League, Liverpool or Arsenal, he wants to stay in Naples next season.
Arsenal and Liverpool watch Lozano: the Mexican has made up his mind
While it might come as a surprise that Lozano would rather stay at Napoli than Sevilla, Liverpool or Arsenal, here’s why. Liverpool and Arsenal need cover, following the departure of Takumi Minamino and Arsenal’s loss to Raphinha.
But Lozano will be fully aware that he will be a substitute and not a first choice. A similar story in Seville. While at Napoli his playing time is set to improve – with Dries Mertens set to leave the club on a free this week.
So while Lozano might be seen as foolish to deny moves to two of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, or Champions League football with Sevilla – his best shot, in game-time terms, is Napoli.
