Arsenal and Crystal Palace are keeping tabs on Pepe

Crystal Palace are interested in a move for Porto winger Pepe but face competition from Arsenal, who are also eyeing the Brazilian.

According to A Bola, relayed by Sport Witness, Crystal Palace are considering signing FC Porto winger Pepe, although the Brazilian’s price could be problematic. The Portuguese side are aware of the interest and could demand a fee closer to the player’s release clause.

Pepe has been the center of attention with Porto since Luis Diaz left in the January window. The Brazilian winger has assumed the role of the left side of the attack with the Portuguese club since the Colombian’s departure to Liverpool. He’s done quite well in that position, although his numbers don’t reflect the current Liverpool star’s output.

The Brazilian winger, who has six goals and five assists in 40 games this season, has still done enough to have Premier League clubs eyeing him and considering a move this summer. The Portuguese side initially demanded payment of Pepe’s release clause which is around €70m.

However, lately they have reduced their asking price by €10m which means clubs will have to pay €60m to get the striker. On the other hand, English clubs would value him at 50 million euros, which could complicate a transfer. Porto were hoping to secure a fee similar to what Liverpool paid for Diaz.

However, there is a drastic difference between the exits of the two wingers which could open the doors to negotiations for interested Premier League clubs. Arsenal and Crystal Place are reportedly keen on the Brazilian, as London sides look to bolster their attacking options.

Arsenal have looked at several options in the window and need a left winger to bring competition to the team. They have been linked with Pepe recently, who incidentally could replace Nicolas Pepe in the squad despite their different positions on the pitch.

There’s also Crystal Palace, who remain keen to improve their attack. Patrick Vieira could be looking for an upgrade on Jordan Ayew in the summer transfer window. The Ghanaian operated on the right side under the French manager but he could leave the club this summer.

Palace are strong on both wings, with Wilfried Zaha and Michael Olise occupying the flanks, but the Brazilian could significantly improve the quality and competition on either side. However, it remains to be seen whether the London outfit are willing to pay a hefty transfer fee for the 25-year-old winger, who could be allowed to leave by Porto if the money is right.
