£40million Arsenal-linked player destroyed by local media

Last month it was reported that Arsenal were back for a certain Youssef En-Nesyri [Planet Sport].

The Morocco international has been linked with a move to Arsenal a dozen times over the years.

But on this occasion it’s a bit more believable, given the Gunners are set to sign a number of forwards in the summer transfer window.

However, Mikel Arteta and Edu might have other plans if they watch him in action for Sevilla against Granada last night.

En-Nesyri was on the winning side as Sevilla recorded a 4-2 victory, but Spanish publication AS brutalized him anyway.

Simply, AS wrote of the 24-year-old: “The definition of a total failure.”

Poor performance?

Sometimes the media can be accused of being a bit harsh on footballers.

However, Arsenal’s reported target was genuinely a passenger.

Es-Nesyri was taken off at half-time last night after netting just 10 touches in 45 minutes, underlining how anonymous he was.

Even his passing was awry and only recorded a percentage of 50% – and we’re talking about a total of six assists [WhoScored].

Alexandre Lacazette is able to be anonymous for the Gunners and the Frenchman is, at the moment, gone on a Bosman this summer.

Arsenal need much better than Lacazette next season and if En-Nesyri is capable of the same anonymity, perhaps Arteta and Edu should look elsewhere.
